How to install and configure Dropbox on Debian 7 x86_64

You can download and extract dropbox in your “home” directory with the following commands:

cd ~
wget https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86_64
tar -xvzf dropbox-lnx.x86_64-2.6.33.tar.gz

That’s it.

As a next step you will need to start Dropbox. you can do that with the following command:

/home/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd &

If everything is ok you will receive a message stating that the computer is not linked to your Dropbox account:

This computer isn't linked to any Dropbox account...
Please visit https://www.dropbox.com/cli_xxxxxxx to link this device.

Just copy and paste the address above into your web browser and log in to your Dropbox account. You should see the following message in your browser:

Also, on the command line you should receive a message that your computer is linked with Dropbox
