How to extract (decompress) 7z files on Ubuntu/Debian and Fedora

First you will need to install a package called “p7zip”. To do that please use the following command.

For Fedora please use:

 yum install p7zip

For Debian/Ubuntu please use:

sudo apt-get install p7zip

Once the program is installed you can start uncompressing the files. To do that you can use:

7za e your_file_name.7z

If you want to create a new 7z archive you can use:

7za a your_file_name.7z folder_that_you_want_to_archive/
